What is Groove Dance?
Here is what Stella says...
Spa Eir is the Pacific Northwest’s first home for TheGROOVEMethod™. Every Wednesday and Friday evening, spa owner and Groove facilitator Natalie leads this unique new dance class.
It's difficult to explain Groove because it has a lot going on. It's a combination dance party, exercise class and holistic practice. But with all these facets, it's really very simple.
A song starts. Natalie gives everyone a movement: a snap, a step, a punch, a rhythm. Everyone performs this one unified movement, but we all have our unique take on it. It's our own. And we take it all around the room, at our own pace, in whatever way we feel like. No one can do it wrong.
A new song starts, this time we are all doing "the pony". One Groover puts her hips into her pony, and takes it backwards across the floor. Another incorporates high knees in her pony because she wants more cardio. My pony is smaller because I'm stepping in double time (and with jazz hands), because that's what this song makes me feel like doing.
Groove has been compared to the kind of dancing you would do at a wedding reception. Everyone dancing together in unadulterated, take your shoes off, I-don't-care-what-I-look-like fun. But remember those core movements? They were specifically chosen to work different parts of the body, while keeping the heart rate up. An exercise class, that does not feel like exercise, because of all of the fun. While the core movement gets you started, by listening to your inner self and your body the movement becomes your own. Groove encourages creativity and self-expression, nurturing your body AND spirit.
In October, Groove will take a spooky turn with special Halloween themed classes. Spooky music and movements.
